The Pacific Lutheran University Piano Ensemble is made up primarily of students who have been awarded piano scholarships. They study privately with different professors in the piano department. For the years I coached and directed this ensemble we started experimenting with the recital format. While the students played mostly serious works they occasionally snuck in some comedy pieces. Our audiences grew since they came to expect "surprises." These students were powerhouse pianists backed up by PLU's outstanding piano faculty.
